NVA Clean Up at State Titles
Namoi Valley Archers scored an impressive medal haul of 11 gold, 7 silver and 1 bronze medals at the NSW State ABA Championships held in Maitland.
The tournament got off to a good start with fine weather on the first day but torrential rain on Saturday night and into Sunday left organizers with no choice but to abandon the Sunday program. Peter Stubbs was ecstatic after scoring a memorable win in the Recurve A grade contest. Stubbs, and Taree competitor, Karl Peck both turned in impressive opening rounds to lead by 30 points.
In the second round, pre tournament favourite, Gunnedah’s Darrell Hudson, surged back into contention with a top class round to cut Stubbs’ lead to just 2 points with Peck struggling to stay in touch but with the event shortened Stubbs secured a hard fought win.
Karen Hudson scored a dominating win in the Masters Compound division with a solid display while Steve Jaeger put together an impressive performance to secure the State Title in Recurve Freestyle Limited.this was the first time Jaeger has competed in this division and he was thrilled with his result after a limited preparation.
Ann Stubbs shot extremely well to finish with the silver in the A grade Compound event finishing just behind Maitland’s Noeline Salter in a very close contest.
Nathan Murrell turned in a brilliant performance to finish with the silver in Bowhunter Limited Flight 2 after a titanic struggle with Wagga Wagga archer, Richard Hand. Clubmate, Peter Bush, turned in his best ever performance at a major tournament to grab the bronze medal.
Bernie Hayne scored a very hard earnt silver medal in Freestyle Unlimited Flight 2 with the top 3 archers separated by just a handful of points.
Jarrod Stubbs also scored silver in the Mens compound A grade division after putting together 2 quality rounds.
The club’s junior archers performed very well in the tournament with Lachlan Scott achieving archery’s holy grail scoring a perfect round of 400 points in the 1 arrow round on Saturday afternoon. Scott was in superb form missing the bullseye just 4 times out of 40 targets shot during Saturday’s 2 rounds as he scored a wonderful win in Junior Boys Bowhunter Unlimited Flight 1.
Ethan Mansfield won the Junior Boys Bowhunter Unlimited, Flight 2 event with Adam Loftus grabbing third.
Meg Jaeger finished with silver in Junior Girls Bowhunter Unlimited.
Zac Hayne also shot brilliantly to score the gold in the Junior Freestyle Unlimited event.
Will Loftus and Sophie Donovan underlined their outstanding potential taking the gold in Cub Freestyle Unlimited in their respective events showing excellent form.
The club dominated the Cub Girl Compound section with Haylee Murrell winning A grade, Emily Jaeger grabbing silver in B grade, Kaytlyn Murrell gold in C grade and Emylie Murrell gold in D grade.
